All Revved Up For Sunday

Looking forward to the Singapore Grand Prix

Formula One World Championship

Singapore and the F1 Grand Prix

It still amazes me how the CBD of this great city will be transformed into an F1 circuit for Sunday. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favour and have a look online – it is a fantastic feat of improvisation and creativity, writes Gareth Pepper.

By the time you read this my father Brett will be in town for his first taste of F1 action, something we have in common amongst many other things, and I can’t wait to share the Singapore Grand Prix experience with him and Sonja.

Not only is the F1 and world -class musical acts like Pharell Williams and Maroon 5 in town, we also have some fantastic racing action here at the club.

Emperor Max wins in Singapore on 01-06-2014

Emperor Max – Krisflyer second brings him into the picture

The Garden City Trophy and the Commitee’s Prize are each worth $200 000, and we host Emperor Max, Daniel and fantastic polytrack galloper Super Winner, who takes his chance on the Turf again, for Theo Keiser.

He is an interesting horse, who has had two turf starts.

The first a good second to Affleck and then a disappointing 6th placed finish in a class 3. He will be my value in the race with Emperor Max the leading contender after his admirable 2nd in the Krisflyer back in May.

Daniel makes appeal too and I think they are the main contenders.

In the Commitee’s Prize Stepitup will shoulder 59kgs.

Patrick Shaw

Patrick Shaw – three entrants

Pat Shaw has 3 interesting entrants in Davide, Slew of Lode and Majestic Moments but it is Flax for David Hill and The Evans’ that gets my sentimental vote.

The little horse, who I have mentioned before, is close to retiring and could join Meteor Mike in bowing out in spectacular fashion for all concerned.

Barend Vorster must rank as one of the hardest working Jockeys around.

Barend Voster

Barend Voster – crowd favourite

Always at track, riding trials and hardly a non-starter, he has a slight niggle at the moment. I chatted to him and he assures me it is minor. Let’s hope he is back in the saddle soon! He is a regular face on track and is a crowd favourite.

I wish you well Barend and  I hope you are back sooner rather than later.

So a fantastic day’s racing which will be capped off by me rushing home to change into more appropriate gear (excuse the pun!) and head to the F1 in time to witness the main race and then sing along to Bon Jovi a bit after 23h30 – guaranteed to be out of tune! I will keep a track of the volume, but hey I am sure I won’t be the only one.

Pepper Senior’s voice has been known to crack mirrors, so hopefully he draws more attention than I do.

Pat Shaw’s right hand man Ricardo Le Grange is a well known and talented singer and I believe that when the love ballads are being sung by the headline act, many an ex-pat female will be swooning at his own renditions of the songs.  I have it on good authority that he is a seasoned campaigner when it comes to this sort of thing and will be able to handle the situation!

That pinching myself thing is back –  I would not ordinarily be able to attend this kind of event in the normal course of life and  I really am so privileged and humbled by the opportunity.

After the F1 I am off away for a week with the old man but more about that next week, but the budgie smuggler  is out of retirement and will get a good run at the beach.

Till next time.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
