Maine Chance Welcomes Amanda Carey

Key roleplayer in foundation years of sales companies

One of South African thoroughbred breeding’s most respected and experienced administrators, Amanda Carey is set to join the powerful Maine Chance Farms operation in Robertson in the Western Cape on 1 July.

A lifetime horsewoman, Amanda has made a valuable contribution to the racing and breeding industries in this country in various capacities over the past 30 years.

She started out after leaving school preparing yearlings at the historic Broadlands Stud, where she worked for the late Honourable Pat O’Neil.

The daughter of a National Hunt Jockey, Amanda was born in England and moved to South Africa in 1976.

The mother of three has played a key role in the foundation years of sales companies like Equimark and CTS, and brings a wealth of varied skills and experience to her new post.

She vacates her current position of Sales Director at Cape Thoroughbred Sales at the end of June.

CTS Executive Chairman Chris van Niekerk told the Sporting Post that Amanda Carey was an asset to any organisation.

“So it is with a sense of loss that we at CTS have to say goodbye to her. We respect her decision to join Maine Chance Farms and can understand that the new environment will make for a more conducive family life. We wish Amanda all the best and congratulate Maine Chance Farms on their gain!” added Van Niekerk.

Amanda said that she was looking forward to a world of new challenges and the privilege of being a member of a dynamic team at the internationally-renowned Maine Chance Farms.

Maine Chance boss Dr Andreas Jacobs, who purchased the ruggedly beautiful farm from Graham Beck in 2002, welcomed Amanda to his leadership team.

“Amanda will report directly to me, in parallel with Francois Giliomee, who heads our Agricultural department and Tim Bootsma, who is in charge of our horses.

“There is no substitute for experience and passion, and I wish her every success in her new position. She will run our office supervising Marketing, Human Resources, Finance and Administration, and will work in a transitionary phase in tandem with Margaret Louw, who will oversee our 30 June financial year-end. A longserving team member, Margaret is set to retire in September,” concluded Dr Jacobs.
