Anthony Delpech has confirmed that he has stood down from all his riding engagements on the Kenilworth card on Saturday, 2 December 2017, including Silicone Valley in the Cape Merchants and Silver Thursday in the Cape Fillies Guineas.
Our 2016/17 Jockey Championship holder had been suffering abdominal pain for the last few days and finally decided to consult a doctor to get to the bottom of it on Thursday, 30 November. Although the initial diagnosis was appendicitis, additional scans earlier today confirmed infection and inflammation of the transverse colon. He has fortunately been able to avoid surgery, but is receiving treatment and will be unable to ride tomorrow.
Horses that are affected are:-
Race 2 – F&M Handicap – Best Kept Secret (Mike de Kock)
Race 5 – Graduation Plate – Mujaafy (Mike de Kock)
Race 6 – Cape Merchants – Silicone Valley (Glen Puller)
Race 7 – Fillies Guineas – Silver Thursday (Mike de Kock)
Anthony starts a week’s suspension on Sunday, 3 December, so will have a chance to recuperate and plans to be back in the saddle on Sunday, 10 December 2017.
He asked to thank everyone for all the calls and messages.
