Marcus Recovering After Operation

Surgery a success

Former SA Champion jockey Anton Marcus will commence rehabilitation on Monday after undergoing surgery on Saturday afternoon.

Marcus was thrown from the rather wayward White River in the pre-race parade for the Daisy Guineas at Greyville on Friday evening, a half hour after winning the Daisy Fillies Guineas on Fiorella.

Ironically Marcus was wheeled in to have a plate and screws inserted into his wrist in the middle of the Champions Day meeting at Turffontein on Saturday where he was carded to ride the fancied Legal Eagle and boom 3yo Majestic Mambo. Neither ran a place.

The KZN-based rider expects to be out for at least four weeks and his absence will be a major blow at a crucial time for Ashburton trainer Duncan Howells, with whom he has formed a winning partnership.

Marcus joins the injured list which includes fellow top jockeys, Anthony Delpech and Gavin Lerena.
