Favourite Buffalo Bill Cody was actually scratched on Tuesday from the Gr2 Charity Mile to be run at Turffontein on Saturday.
This was confirmed on Thursday by Aveen Sewpersad, Manager of the National Racing Bureau, following a question from the Sporting Post on behalf of readers.
The horse reflects on the SA Horseracing website as having been scratched at 07h57 on Wednesday 30 October.
It seems to have been a quirk of the timing of the feature race being finalised prior to the rest of the card, coupled with the De Kock yard’s withdrawal notification, that the NRB was obliged systematically speaking, to show the withdrawal post the card finalisation,
“The horse was scratched on Tuesday 29 October. We had to make it a card scratching as the field for that race was finalised last week. We officially scratched it yesterday morning. Had we scratched it on Tuesday, the horse would not be in the fields,” confirmed Sewpersad.
