Alexia’s Tale Of A Cat!

A young lady and her exciting pet

Cup Cake’ smashing daughter by Master Of My Fate

Boland Stud’s Eugene Freeman came back from the USA in 2008 and Mom and Dad suggested it was time to start working for a living.

He recalls the first sale he attended had him wondering what all the fuss was about – this was an easy game.

A decade on he suggests that the subsequent tough times teach one more!

“You learn nothing when the going is good!”, he laughs as he chats to us about a magnificent Master Of My Fate (Jet Master) filly born on 28 August to the stakes performed Var mare Cup Cake, a half sister to the stud’s tough as teak flagbearer, Gr2 winner Captain Aldo.

Eugene bred the filly in partnership with well-known owner and restauranteur, Aldo Girolo.

Leading owner Fred Crabbia purchased Cup Cake from Boland Stud for R350 000 off the National Yearling Sale. The well-performed galloper is out of the three-time winning Elliodor mare, Cuddle Me.

“We have an excellent relationship with Emma Rorke, a genuine horselover who manages Mr Crabbia’s operation. When Cup Cake was finished racing she knew that our girl had to come back home to us! This is her first foal and she is a real beauty. She will be going to Nationals in 2021 and hopefully St John Gray, who did such a great job with Captain Aldo, will be writing a big cheque to get her,” he smiled.

Eugene says that his daughter Alexia has named her cat Cup Cake, after her favourite horse. That’s got to be a good sign!
