Cape Weight Dates

The publishing of weights in Cape delayed for 24 hours to accomodate updated ratings

Getting the Cape into Shape. Changes streamline process.

A minor procedural change to the issuing of weights for Western Cape racing has been implemented.

The Sporting Post received enquiries from affected parties and aproached the National Horseracing Authority and the National Racing Bureau for clarity.

On enquiry we were informed by NHRA Handicapping Manager Roger Smith, that minor changes have been made.

Smith advised that as the nominations normally take place on the same day as racing in the Western Cape, the Handicappers’ recent proposal to the Racing Operator that the weights only be issued the next day, has been adopted.

This makes sense as it effectively provides the opportunity to allow that race meeting to be assessed and would make the published ratings more current and relevant.

Roger Smith has confirmed that where there is no racing in the Western Cape on a nominations day, the weights would be issued on that day, as has been the practice in the past.
