The Royal Racer! Her Serene Highness, Princess Charlene of Monaco is guest of honour on Charity Mile Day

Her Serene Highness, Princess Charlene of Monaco sponsors the two big money maiden races

There is a Pick 6 carryover of R900 000 with an estimated pool of R4 million for today’s Turffontein meeting – while R100 000 will be injected into the Quartet on the Charity Mile itself and a pool of in the region of R700 000 is predicted.

This year charities will receive a record R1-million, with the charity that draws the winning horse receiving a whopping R150 000 with the second-placed runner earning R100 000 for their charity. Even the horse who finishes last will bring R50 000 into the kitty of a charity.

The Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile Day does not only see R1 million being dispersed among 16 charities but there is also a residue for the owners who might have a struggling maiden or two.

Two Maiden Plates, one over 1160m and the other over 1600m, will carry prize money of R250 000 each. They have both been sponsored by her Serene Royal Highness Princess Charlene Of Monaco who even in horseracing, wants to see something happen for the little guy in racing.

Not surprisingly, there were 113 nominations for the 1160m race and 111 for the 1600m event. There is a double charity bonus as the Racing Association donates all the nominations fees for those two races to the Horse Care Unit which means they will receive a cash injection of R112 000.
