Festival Gets A Boost

Magners Gold Cup build-up

In a series that will run throughout the 2018/19 season, Cheltenham Gold Cup and Grand National winning jockey and pundit for ITV Racing Mick Fitzgerald travels Britain and Ireland in search of the stories that make The Festival™ presented by Magners Four Days of Extraordinary.

Fitzgerald brings to life all the incredible stories behind the best week of Jump Racing.

Mick Fitzgerald with the Gold Cup

The first episode follows him to the heart of the Cotswolds where he meets TV presenter Lee McKenzie who surprised him with the original 1924 Gold Cup.

The racecourse was recently reunited with the trophy, which had been in a bank vault since the 1970s, and only Gold Cup winners are allowed to handle it!

Next stop on his journey, Fitzgerald visits Ireland where he meets with the Mullins family dynasty as well as enjoying a tour around the home of Magners, the official partner of The Festival 2019.

The Mullins family

He also sees possible Magners Gold Cup winners being born, chats to connections of past winners and finds out what happens to Festival winners after they retire.

Fitzgerald commented: “I was lucky enough to win the Gold Cup on See More Business in 1999 so to see the excitement of the Mullins family in the presence of the famous Magners Gold Cup, which they are yet to get their hands on, was just brilliant. It was quite difficult trying to not get Willie to touch it!

“To then visit the home of Magners and feel the buzz of their staff ahead of The Festival™ presented by Magners in March next year was extraordinary.
