Former Horse Of The Year and four time Gr1 winner Legislate has returned to his birthplace, the Cheveley Stud in Ceres, and he will be standing this season for a very reasonable fee of R5 000 live foal.
Legislate wins the 2014 Green Point Stakes
Pleasingly, Legislate, whose fertility issues have been well documented, has already had his first mare (Cheveley will be testing more mares shortly) tested in foal –and can hardly have made a better start to the 2018 breeding season.
Vaughan Koster, who bred the champion, is thrilled to have Legislate back home, and says, “Cheveley have very nice, athletic yearlings by him which was one of the reasons we were so keen to get him back, apart from the fact that he was a champion racehorse and there might have been a little sentiment involved!
He’s a tall, rangy but very athletic horse and I think he likes average sized mares with substance.”
Legislate, a course record holder over 1600m at Kenilworth, is one of three sons of his four times Equus Outstanding Stallion sire Dynasty to have been named Horse Of The Year. Former Horse Of The Year Dynasty, long regarded as one of South Africa’s elite sires, ranks as one of the very best stallions bred in this country, with Dynasty sired champions including such as Legislate, Futura, Irish Flame, Beach Beauty, Bela-Bela, Just Sensual, Lady In Black, and It’s My Turn, as well as such notable Gr1 winners as Eyes Wide Open, Act Of War, Liege, and the very exciting young stallion Jackson.
The Cheveley Stud bred bay captured four individual Equus Awards –with Legislate’s official titles including that of South Africa’s Horse Of The Year in 2014. He was also Equus Champion 3YO Colt and Middle Distance Horse of 2014, and was named Champion Miler of 2014-2015.
The handsome bay earned over R5.7 million and ranked as one of the most brilliant performers of his generation. Legislate’s seven victories included the G1 Vodacom Durban July, G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge, G1 Investec Cape Derby and G1 Daily News 2000.
In landing the Cape Derby, Daily News 2000, KZN Guineas and Durban July, Legislate emulated his own sire Dynasty who had previously completed that feat in 2003.
Legislate’s eagerly awaited first yearlings go on sale in 2019.
