South African jockey Greg Cheyne, who is based in Singapore, won the 16th running of the Kenilworth Cup at Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday.

The race is run as part of a reciprocal arrangement that sees the Selangor Cup run at Kenilworth during the Sizzling Summer Season. The R300 000 Gr2 event was won in 2012 by Joey Ramsden’s King Of Pain, who got the better of the champion Capetown Noir in one of the best finishes of the season. The event won by Cheyne on Saturday was the first leg of six races which formed an international jockey challenge with riders which included Joao Magic Moreira and Noel Callow, amongst others from Australia, Korea, Japan, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia.

Cheyne rode two winners and three seconds on the star studded international race day and received his trophy for the Kenilworth Cup from a proud and elated WCRA Chairman Vidrik Thurling. He then went on to win the International Jockeys challenge.
