Crop – Veale Suspended

Seven days for overstrike

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Durban on 3 January 2021, Jockey Sean Veale was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop).

The particulars being that he struck the horse CUPID’S SONG more than 12 times in race 3, run at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse, on 30 December 2020.

Jockey Veale pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board found Jockey Veale guilty and after considering all factors in mitigation and Jockey Veale’s poor recent record in relation to this Rule, imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of seven days.

Jockey Veale has the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.
