The catalogue for the 2020 renewal of the CTS Ready To Run, Two-Year-Old, and Mixed Sale has been published online, on the Cape Thoroughbred Sales website.
The sale, renowned for its high-profile winners and a return on investment, will be staged online in partnership with Gavelhouse.com on Sunday, 29 November.
For the first time, this year, the auction will include 93 unbroken two-year-olds which also qualify for the RTR race, as well as 12 lots in a Mixed Sale Section.
As per custom, potential buyers will have an opportunity to watch the pre-trained entries gallop, and the gallops have been scheduled for Durbanville Racecourse on Monday 16 and Friday 20 November, preceded by a champagne breakfast, and open to all. The entries will be split between the two dates. Horses will be available for viewing after the gallops.
The 2020 CTS Ready To Run Sales Cup (R1.25-million) has been moved forward to take place on Saturday, 21 November, at Kenilworth, to be contested over 1400m.
The CTS R2R Sale has been hugely successful in terms of the number of big race performers to have come from it, producing a host of graded and stakes performers including Red Ray (stallion), Rabada (stallion) Captain America, Liege, Sergeant Hardy, Bold Respect, Brave Mary, Hero’s Honour, Surcharge and Takingthepeace, to name but a few.
The 178-strong catalogue shows its customary depth of variety and quality, and includes offspring from an array of superb stallions including the recently retired multiple champion Silvano (4 Lots), the deceased but still dominant Dynasty (2), Trippi (4), VAR (1), Gimmethegreenlight (11), Zoffany (1), Querari (11), What A Winter (10), Vercingetorix (9), Master of My Fate (7), Futura (5), William Longsword (6), and Rafeef (5).
Among the gallopers will be siblings of Gr1 winners including Lot 7 Whatever Next (What A Winter), the first foal of Petala (Captain Al), a Gr3 winner from the close family of Gr2 Politician Stakes winner, Doublemint.
Lot 11 is an unnamed daughter of Twice Over and Prive (Saumarez), the well-related half-sister to Rodoille and Blue Tiger and dam of multiple stakes winner Louvre.
Lot 25 is a Zoffany-sired half-sister to Gr1 Hollywood Gold Cup winner Rail Trip.
Another first foal who will enjoy his fair share of attention is an unnamed son of Global View (Lot 33). He is the first-born of Gr2 winner Alexis (Dynasty).

Top race filly Happy Archer (Dubawi) has produced two decent winners from her two foals to race. The third one, on offer here, is Lot 59, a colt by Trippi, who is going to have his stable door opened any number of times.
Trippi is also the sire of Lot 64, a bay filly produced by dual listed winner Irish Myth (Dynasty).
There are a number of lots to watch among the unbroken two-year-olds, including Lot 76, a Jackson colt from the prolific winner-producer Pearl Hostess (Elliodor); Lot 87, a Gimmethegreenlight filly from Gr1-placed Sensible Lover (Good Journey); Lot 98, a filly by Master Of My Fate from another consistently successful mare Vanilla Silk (Al Mufti); Lot 107, the second filly foal of Air Pocket (Jet Master, sired by Silvano); Lot 108, the next in line from champion broodmare Akinfeet (Fort Wood) – a filly sired by Gimmethegreenlight, and Lot 159, another filly by Gimmethegreenlight, this one from Yeats’ full-sister Magnolia Lane (Sadler’s Wells).
Two-time winner Magic Mike (Twice Over), a five-year gelding with more in the tank, and Don’t Be Blue, a Captain Al mare right off the racetrack and covered by Global View, are among the plums on the Mixed Sale, catalogued as the last 12 lots.
“We could not be happier with the support received, and the quality of entry, for this catalogue. It represents the strongest stallion power in the country. This is a great opportunity for owners to get a runner in a rich sales race,” said Grant Knowles, Marketing and Bloodstock Director of CTS.
A sales race has been introduced with a vendor levy of R3,000 and a buyer’s levy of R5,000. This equates to an R8,000 levy per horse.
With the number of entries known, the race’s value will be in excess of R1 million in 2021, with conditions applying to horses not sold.
CTS will be responsible for the allocation and approval of buyer’s cards. Approved buyers’ details will be forwarded to Gavelhouse.com where they will be issued with a username and password.
