The Singapore Turf Club has granted South African jockey Derreck David a six-month visiting jockey’s licence which will commence from the day the work permit is approved, while other jockeys and apprentice jockeys have been renewed for various periods, including Vlad Duric and Danny Beasley until 31 December 2016 and Kanichiro Fujii for another month until 31 July 2016.

David, 27, was first licensed for a short stay in Singapore earlier in March when he rode at three meetings, booting home two winners in 10 rides, including Poseidon in the Racing Guide Classic, at his very first ride.

A product of the South African Jockey Academy in 2005, David claimed two Gauteng champion apprentice jockey titles before landing the national South African champion apprentice jockey title in 2009.

As a senior jockey, he plied his trade with success in South Africa, mainly for leading trainers Mike de Kock and Gary Alexander, before he ventured overseas in Zimbabwe, Dubai and mostly, Mauritius where he won the premiership last year.

David has tallied up around 650 winners, with the highlights being Pierre Jourdan’s two Legs of the Triple Crown, the Grade 2 Gauteng Guineas and the Grade 1 SA Classic in 2010, and the Grade 2 Charity Mile in 2011. He also notched a second Gauteng Guineas with Golden Chateau to bring his total Grade 2 and 3 haul to 14 along with four Listed races.

David goes to scale at 50kgs.
