Pins inserted in his ankle

Devin Ashby is back and raring to go

Devin Ashby – injury blow

Jockey Devin Ashby was admitted to Milnerton Medi – Clinic  after an horrific accident while sprinting up a Eric Sands horse at the Milnerton training centre on Thursday morning.

According to reports, the horse flipped over backwards and fell on top of the young rider.

His badly damaged ankle was operated on and pins were inserted.

He is expected to be out of action for at least eight weeks.

His wife Stacey told the Sporting Post earlier that her husband was in high spirits but devastated by the blow that has come at a time when his confidence is at an all time high.

“Devin has been working so hard and was looking forward to the Summer season. He rode a lovely winner last Saturday at Durbanville.I suppose injury is always a risk when you are a jockey. But we will take it week by week and see how things go,” she said.

Devin only just recently returned from a stint in Gauteng under the guidance of his agent, Desmond Zacpack Zackey.

He is expected to be discharged from hospital today.
