Caviar aims for 18

Black Caviar sets out to emulate Silent Witness on 11 February

Going for the dream. Black Caviar tries to make it a straight seventeen.

It has been a nightmare of a freaky fortnight for South African horseracing. Why is it that the corporate cancer of bad publicity so quickly outweighs the dizzy memories of champions?

Val De Ra, Gimmethegreenlight, Igugu, Variety Club and Jackson, are but a few of the stars that made the Sizzling Summer Season boiling hot.  But  Down Under everybody is talking about that hot property called Black Caviar.

The aptly named Silent Witness will live up to his name on 11 Feb  when he makes a “guest appearance” as Black Caviar attempts to break his record of 17straight wins..

Patrons attending Caulfield’s free-entry Festival Family Day  will not only be treated to the presence of Black Caviar, but two other Living Legends of the turf in Silent Witness and Apache Cat.

Three-time World Champion Sprinter Silent Witness will lead Black Caviar and her opponents on to the track for the Sportingbet C.F. Orr Stakes, a fitting event given that Black Caviar will be out to surpass Silent Witness’s record of 17 consecutive wins from debut.

Speed Sensation. Silent Witness' record in danger.

Melbourne Racing Club Chief Executive Officer, Alasdair Robertson, said the Club couldn’t be more excited about the prospect of hosting three bona fide superstars.

“Having Silent Witness and Apache Cat joining a modern-day champion at Caulfield just adds another dimension again to what already shapes as a sensational day,” Mr Robertson said.

Movie Star! Apache Cat has it all.

“Apache Cat was an unforgettable racehorse that developed a cult following during his career so it will be great to see that baldy face again.

“Australian racing fans can look  forward to seeing Silent Witness, an Australian-bred that was crowned World Champion Sprinter three times but never raced here.

“That Black Caviar is set to outdo his record of 17 straight wins from debut just adds even more romance to the occasion.”

In line with the Melbourne Racing Club’s Caulfield Festival Family Day theme for the 11 February race day, patrons of all ages will have the opportunity to mingle and take photos with the former star pair, who will be situated alongside a Black Caviar-themed marquee containing a photo booth, murals for signing, and other merchandise.

With the public granted free admission on the day , Melbourne Racing Club members can also expect some perks of their own.  This includes a special on pots of beer and Yellowglen Piccolos, which will be on offer exclusively to members for 99 cents and $1.99 respectively from 12-1pm.

They can sure as hell breed horses, and maybe we can keep learning from the Aussies on other fronts too?
