Globetrotting Gavin at The Sydney Arms

Two of the three riders representing the Rest of The World Team in the 2016 Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup, the world’s premier international jockeys’ team competition, will be available for interviews in London today between 11.00am and 3.00pm.

The interviews will take place at London’s racing pub, The Sydney Arms (please see below for further details).

South African Gavin Lerena will be riding in his first Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup.

The 31-year-old was crowned champion jockey in his homeland for the first time in the 2014/15 season and is a proven performer on the international stage, having won the LONGINES International Jockeys’ Championship at Happy Valley, Hong Kong in December, 2015.

Also making his first appearance at the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup is Kenichi Ikezoe from Japan. Ikezoe, 37, partnered Orfevre to win the Japanese Triple Crown in 2011 and landed the Japan Cup in 2015 aboard Shonan Pandora.

Also available for interview on Thursday will be:

Canada’s Emma-Jayne Wilson. Riding in her fifth Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup and captain of The Girls team, she is the most successful female jockey of all-time in her homeland. She captained The Girls Team to a historic victory in the 2015 Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup.

Hayley Turner OBE. Britain’s winning-most female rider announced her retirement from race riding in November, 2015, but is returning to action as a one-off for the 2016 Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup. A veteran of nine Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cups, Turner has recently warmed up for her return to Ascot with a handful of rides and also acted as a jockey coach for the Magnolia Cup Charity Race at Goodwood.
