Piere Strydom:one of the best and leave him out at your peril

Champion jockey Piere Strydom flies into Durban later this morning after a week in which he was laid low by a knockout flu virus. ‘Striker’, as he is affectionately known to his legion of fans, has ridden the July winner on three occasions.

His first win came aboard London News in 1996, and he also won on Trademark and then Pomodoro just two years ago.

He bids to give Sean Tarry and Chris Van Niekerk a historic hat-trick of wins this year.

He told the Sporting Post on Wednesday that as long as he was feeling 90% right, he was confident that he would be able to give 110%.
