Var gelding Juan Two Three hasn’t been out since winning the 1200m East Cape Poly Challenge a year ago and he faces eleven rivals as he bids for the double in today’s first leg of the R600 000 World Sports Betting Eastern Cape Poly Challenge.

Juan Two Three in action
The Challenge comprises three legs over three distances. The first, on Monday, is over 1200m and the other two races take place on Friday 13 April – over 1400m – with the final leg taking place on Friday 11 May over 1600m.
Each of these Non-Black Type races carries prize money of R100 000. A bonus of R250 000 will be paid to the owners of a horse who can win all three legs of the Eastern Cape Poly Challenge.
A consolation bonus of R50 000 will be paid in the event of no winner with the provision that the horse will have run in all three legs. Points allocated for the consolation are: 1st 10, 2nd 6, 3rd 4, 4th 3, 5th 2 and 6th 1. If ownership changes across the series, the bonus will be shared proportionately.
The bonus is apportioned as follows: 5% will be paid to winning trainer, 5% to the winning jockey and 0.5% to the winning groom.
Horses who have participated in both Leg 1 and Leg 2 of the Challenge will not be subject to the payment of Entry and Declaration fees in Leg 3.
Today’s first race – also the first leg of the Bipot – is off at 13h00.
