Nadine Rapson – deserving honour

Special service honours were awarded to various deserving recipients at the Eastern Cape Racing Awards held at Fairview Racecourse on Saturday evening.

LONG SERVICE AWARD –

Presented by the NHRA to Mike Jones in recognition of his 33 years’ service.

CHAMPION GROOM –

This award is presented to the best groom in the Eastern Cape. This category was judged by his peers. The committee of the grooms association were tasked with voting for the winner of this category. Congratulations to Bongani Richard Jezi 

CHAMPION WORK RIDER –

PE now has work riders races again and this category will become an annual award. Only three races were held last season and Mr Y Thuthu finished the season at the top of the log, with a first and a third.

CHAMPION LOCAL JOCKEY –

Teaque Gould achieved the most winners in the season, from all the locally based Jockeys.

SA RECORD HOLDER 1000M –

Blizzard Belle trained by Yvette Bremner and owned by Mr E Batalides, Mr C Hewitson and Mr M Wright, broke the record for 1000m on 11 January 2016 at Fairview Racecourse. She set a time of 54.55sec under her 57kgs and was ridden by S’manga Khumalo.

DEDICATION TO THE RACING INDUSTRY –

Nadine Low Ah Kee nee Rapson rode as a professional jockey with distinction for many years and retired due to a back injury. She was also a stable employee to the Alan Greeff stable for many years. Her contribution to the stable was immense. She was then offered the position as an on-course presenter for Tellytrack and has become a well-respected member of their team. The racing public  enjoy her enthusiasm and the amount of information she provides them with.
