The 2013 East Cape Racing Awards were held for the first time at Fairview Racecourse, on Saturday 7 September. The event was hosted jointly by the Racing Association and Phumelela. The Maine Chance Farms bred Victory Moon gelding Blaze Of Fire walked off with the Horse Of The Year award.

Trained by Yvette Bremner, Blaze Of Fire won the Founders Trophy during the past season, but his big run was a terrific third behind Jackson in the Gr1 Champions Cup on Super Saturday.

There were a few emotional moments when Carol Janse Van Rensburg was given a standing ovation for her service to both the RA and the NHA, while Mike Jones and Peter Aston were both visibly surprised by their long service awards.

The evening was a resounding success with Clyde Basel acting as Master of Ceremonies, together with Larry Wainstein. Andrew Bon produced an insert for Tellytrack that will be shown at a future date.

The Directors of the East Cape Racing Association extended a special word of appreciation to Lucille Wainstein for all the work she had done behind the scenes, while they also acknowledged the vital role played by sponsors.

These included Tellytrack, Hollywoodbets.net, Betting World, Afresh Brands, Equine Insurance, Global Bloodstock Logistics, New Turf Carriers, Bloodstock SA, Cape Thoroughbred Sales and Die Son.

The East Cape Chapter of the RA and Phumelela East Cape announced that they were looking forward to the new season and were particularly proud to bring racing on a Polytrack to South Africa for the first time.
