Easy For The Peter Angel

Highveld NBT Winter Juvenile Fillies Stakes

Calvin Habib and Tony Peter didn’t enjoy much luck at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday, but the combination got some compensation when the clearly promising VJ’s Angel went from pillar to post to win the non black-type R150 000 Highveld Winter Juvenile Stakes at Turffontein 24 hours later.

Starting a well supported 9-10 fancy, Calvin Habin took the daughter of Gimmethegreelight (More Than Ready) out to lead from the break and she never looked like being caught.

VJ’s Angel went on resolutely to beat World Of Alice by 2,25 lengths in a time of 85,36 secs, with Across The Pond (25-2) rounding off the trifecta.

Another winner for Varsfontein Stud in their 50th anniversary year, the winner looks like a bargain buy at R200 000 off the Cape Premier Yearling Sale, and took her stakes bank to R225 000 with her third win and a place from 5 starts.

She is out of the one-time winning Oratorio mare, Tally-Ho.
