Penalty Kick For Judpot Gelding

Alec Laird charge wins full of running

The well-related Judpot gelding Drop Kick gave the Shongweni Mixed Sale a timely fillip  when he powered home to win the rescheduled R135 000 Egoli Mile at Turffontein on Wednesday evening.

One of the late Chris Gerber draft on next Tuesday’s popular sale at the scenic Shongweni Polo Grounds, Drop Kick scored an overdue second career win under an inspired ride by Raymond Danielson.

A Varsfontein-bred full brother to Gr1 winner Forest Indigo, the R400 000 National Yearling Sale graduate was relaxed in midfield as Luke Ferraris opted to turn up the pace tempo out front on Captain Of Tortuga.

Danielson made his move quite early on Drop Kick who hit the front full of running under a left handed ride at the 350m.

While Captain Of Tortuga ran a gutsy race and came right back after looking dead and buried close home, Drop Kick was too strong and went on to win by 1,75 lengths in a time of 99,81 secs.

The filly Welsh Harp stayed on a further 0,30 lengths back in third.

Bred by Varsfontein, the Alec Laird-trained Drop Kick is a son of Judpot (A.P.Indy), who also sired Sunday’s Gr3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap winner Down To Zero.

The winner is out of the Fort Wood mare Albizia

A winner of 2 races with 6 places from 11 starts for stakes of R223 175, Drop Kick is catalogued as # 13 on the Shongweni Mixed Sale. The sale starts at 11h00 on Tuesday 26 February.
