Breeders’ Cup Turf Could Be Enable Swansong

Conditions were her undoing in Paris

Sunday’s disappointing sixth placing in the Gr1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe by Enable has not knocked the daughter of Nathaniel around.

According to racingpost.com, having struggled in the conditions – corroborated by Frankie Dettori – trainer John Gosden opined that the champion mare wasn’t helped by a distinct lack of pace either.

That reality was potentially exacerbated by the withdrawal of Ballydoyle’s powerful bunch of runners who would likely have ensured a tougher tempo.

With a decision on the 6YO mare’s future pending, neither Gosden nor owner Khalid Abdullah’s racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe would be drawn on whether she has run her last race or could have a last roll of the dice in the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Turf.

The possibility of a UK swansong at Ascot in ten days time is receding as conditions are likely to be a facsimile of what she encountered at Longchamp.
