Favourites Rule At Scottsville

Farewell to KZN Starter

On a good day for most punters, every leg of the Scottsville Sunday Pick 6 was won by the tote favourite with the exotic returning a not to be snuffed at dividend of R1 381-80 for a R1 outlay.

Paul Hepworth receives a farewell envelope from NHA Racing Control Manager, Arnold Hyde

Our newly crowned SA Champion jockey Lyle Hewitson, at just his second meeting back from injury, found himself in the wars again when his mount broke a leg.

Hewitson took a bad fall after Gratuity suffered a traumatic injury when looking set for a big finish in the fourth race. Stuart Randolph also came off Pathway To Glory. Both riders were bruised and suffered soft tissue injury.

Lyle wrote on the Sporting Post Facebook page that he was in pain and was going for an MRI scan and praying for a positive outcome. He was encouraged by his injured colleague MJ Byleveld to ‘take no chances’. Byleveld underwent surgery at the Durbanville Medi-Clinic on Friday after an MRI scan revealed disc damage.

On the positive side, Anton Marcus was the hero of the afternoon with four well taken winners – two for former Milnerton, now Ashburton-based, Shane Humby, and one apiece for Dennis Drier and Alyson Wright.

Winning Form-sponsored Muzi Yeni was also in good form and rode a double for the Duncan Howells yard.

The at times ccontroversial KZN Starter Paul Hepworth retires at the end of September after 20 years service. He was given a farewell presentation on course by NHA Racing Control Manager Arnold Hyde.
