Fourie Sounds The Warning

The first race at Turffontein is off at 11h30

An exciting ten-race programme is set for Turffontein this afternoon.

There is a R2 million Pick 6 carryover with an estimated pool of R10 million. The main event of the day is the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup over 2000m.

It is an early start with the first due off at 11h30.

Trainer Roy Magner saddles Melech in Race 2 and he is the best bet on the card. He produced a promising debut effort over this course and distance. He showed good pace, understandably raced green but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging.

The son of William Longsword would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should take a power of beating.

Sound Of Warning  – having her peak run today (Pic – JC Photos)

Sound Of Warning from the Sean Tarry stable takes her place in the Grade 3 Betway Merchants. She showed good signs of a form return in her last start over 1200m on the Inside course.

She still showed signs of needing that outing as she raced from just off the pace, but ran out of puff in the latter stages. She won the Grade 3 Magnolia Handicap on this race day, last year. The daughter of Trippi is having her peak run, she runs well for Richard Fourie and can notch up her fourth career victory.

Trainer Mike de Kock holds a strong hand in the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup with preference for Hollywoodbets Durban July winner, Sparkling Water. She ran a very good race when third in the Grade 3 Victory Moon Stakes last time.

She took the lead at the 400m mark that day, but was outrun late by Litigation. She is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The 5yo mare would have come on from the outing and from her handy draw of five, she can notch up her eighth career victory.
