Frankie’s Indian Summer!

Bookies run for cover

Frankie Dettori, who last Saturday hailed Enable the best he had ever ridden and ‘the queen of racing’ after she made a winning return to action in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown, is enjoying a purple patch.

The 48 year old’s current winning strike rate across the UK’s feature season has perturbed British bookmakers, with both Skybet and bet365 restricting the number of Dettori-ridden horses in multiples, and Coral has imposed its own limitations on accumulator bets in fear of a repeat of Dettori’s astonishing 7 winners at Ascot in 1996.

Frankie Dettori

Frankie riding better than ever, with The Guardian reporting that his 29% winning strike rate this season has included 9 wins from 14 rides over the past 8 days; encompassing Gr1 victories in the Eclipse, the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and the Prix Jean Prat.

If he can continue riding winners in that vein, this stands to be the best season of his career – age clearly holds no barrier.

To come back from the dire straits he found himself in following his drug ban in 2013 – he rode only 16 winners that season – to a career best season is no mean feat, particularly with his retirement imminent.
