Pepper's Point - All The Way From Singapore

Nooresh Juglall - good winner

Nooresh Juglall – good winners

This weekend saw the running of the Merlion Trophy. The first leg of the sprinters series was won for the second year in succession by Alwin Tan’s El Pedrino and jockey Oscar Chavez partnered the game galloper, writes Gareth Pepper.

El Pedrino came from last, a couple wide into the home turn to record a phenomenal victory, and in slightly faster time than his win twelve months ago.

He unfortunately missed his chance at Dubai glory last year due to some issues with his vaccinations, but all seems on track for the ten-time winner this time around.

Hopefully he can represent Singapore in the same glorious fashion that Rocket Man did and we are all looking forward to seeing how he goes, if he makes the trip.

Nooresh Juglall had a fantastic Friday night with 2 winners and on Sunday Barend Vorster booted home 3 winners, two for Fred Crabbia.

Barend has lost none of his zest for riding and if you get a chance to, watch the replay of Storm Troops’ winning the 3rd race. It was a top class ride and showed just how brilliant he is in the saddle and for good measure, he also finished runner-up to El Padrino in the feature on Stepitup.

Pat Shaw had an incredible weekend with 4 winners in total and that pushed him up to 7th on the trainers log

Lightning Visit

Man-in-tight-suitI will be jetting back to SA this weekend to attend two of my dearest friends’ wedding.

Although not in racing, they have shared my love and passion for the game by attending various racedays and have put up with me showing them countless replays over the years.

And I decided a new suit was in order for the big day. Barend Vorster kindly referred me to his tailor.

Although the original quote was increased substantially due to the excess material needed to fit my ‘frame’, the suit has turned out very well and it is another example of the added bonus of living here. It took exactly 4 days to produce and it fits like the veritable glove.

I just cannot afford to make any sudden movements and I might  be a glaring omission from the dance floor, for fear of a torn pair of trousers!!!

But I cannot forego the chance to also get home and see those nearest and dearest to me.

It may come as a shock, but I have the honour of playing MC at the wedding and I have a surprise lined up. It (naturally) has some racing influence and will hopefully be posting a clip on Youtube straight afterwards.

Cheers to Jason and Cindy. Here’s wishing you both many years of happiness together – let’s get the party started!

Till next time.
