Majmu wins the 2014 renewal

World Sports Betting are the new sponsors of one of South Africa’s most prestigious classics, the R1 million Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas, which is to be run this year on December 5 at Kenilworth racecourse.

The World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas will form the alternate first leg of the SA Triple Tiara, as it did last year.

The big race, formerly sponsored by leading Cape breeders Avontuur, has been won by some of the all time great fillies of the South African turf, including Breyani, Petrava, Olympic Duel, Star Effort, Hoeberg, Sun Classique and Princess Victoria.

Last year’s Cape Fillies Guineas turned out to be one of the best form races of the season as the winner Majmu went on to win the Gr 1 Laurie Jaffee Empress Club Stakes in Johannesburg before running second to the boys under a Gr 1 penalty in the Gr 1 President’s Champions Challenge.

The runner up Inara went on to win both the Gr 1 Maine Chance Farms Paddock Stakes and the Gr 1 Klawervlei.
