Winx Shatters Gr1 Record

Third Chipping Norton win

Winx has won a record 23rd straight race to surpass Black Caviar’s record for the most Australian Group 1 wins.

Winx – Australian champion

In her comeback to the track Winx was too strong for the field in the $600,000 TAB Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes at Sydney’s Royal Randwick on Saturday

Jockey Hugh Bowman rode the mighty mare towards another victory that cements her position in the pantheon of racing’s greatest ever performers.

It was the supermare’s 16th Gr1 win, breaking Black Caviar’s record of 15. A third Chipping Norton win also took the six-year-old’s career prize money earnings to the $16 million mark.

“We’ve never talked about a horse the way we talk about her,” Channel 7’s Bruce McAvaney said.

Trainer Chris Waller said: “It’s a great story for Australian sport”.

Jockey Hugh Bowman piloted Winx into a difficult position sitting five wide around the turn before exploding down the straight from the 300m mark to hit the front and streak away from the field.

She left the field in her wake, winning by more than seven lengths ahead of Prized Icon and Classic Uniform.
