Best sprinter in Mauritius

Green Keeper (Right Approach) wins Gr1 Princesss Margaret Cup, following two Gr2 wins on the island

Gr1 win for Green Keeper – by Right Approach

Despite missing slightly the start and not being able to lead in his usual fashion, Green Keeper proved that he was still the best sprinter on the island by landing on last Saturday the Princess Margaret Cup, recently promoted to Group 1 status and run under Weight For Age terms over 1400 metres.

His stable mate Chief Mambo led the field well into the final straight and looked like having stolen a march. But coming from the rear, Green Keeper responded with haste to the command of Johnny Geroudis and made up ground very quickly.

With 100 metres to go, the hot 1/2 favourite justified the support of the racegoers by catching up Chief Mambo and going on to win by 1.15 lengths. It was Green Keeper’s sixth win from eleven starts in Mauritius. His three placings also helped his bank account to rise to Rs3,390,000 (about 850,000 Rands).

Green Keeper is trained by multiple champion Trainer Gilbert Rousset and has won in Mauritius from 1000 metres to 1600 metres.
