The final field and draws for the R600 000 Gr2 Emerald Cup to be run over 1450m at the Vaal on 28 September, have been announced.

The high quality fourteen strong field includes all the regular sand stars, and is headed by the Mike Azzie trained champion Pylon, who carries top weight.

Azzie’s son of Fort Wood has drawn at 8 and will be tested over a trip that is probably slightly short for him at best.

Weiho Marwing goes to post with a power coupling of the bang in form Here Comes Billy and the ever game former Cape star, Uncle Tommy. They both pulled nice draws.

An interesting runner is the Gavin Smith trained former Eastern Cape champion juvenile, In A Rush. RA CEO Larry Wainstein pulled the ace when he drew 1 for the connections.

In A Rush has another tilt at Africa’s richest sand race after being withdrawn from the weather interrupted event last year, and could be a value outsider as an unknown quantity.
