Joey’s Fate On Song

'He'll be better over further'

Milnerton trainer Joey Ramsden signalled that he means business this SA Champions Season when he sent the top-class Master Of My Fate colt Twist Of Fate out in fighting trim to win the R600 000 Gr2 KRA Guineas at Greyville on Friday evening.

Anton Marcus rode the hardknocking Favour Stud-bred model of pure consistency, who ran on powerfully late from his pole position draw to dispose of National Park – the only horse ever to beat Hawwaam – by an unextended three quarters of a length in a time of 95,91 secs.

The favourite Soqrat, who ran from a very wide draw was left with too much to do, and ran on too late for fourth.  Mike de Kock said that he had now learnt his lesson as regards running horses from a wide draw on a ‘go-kart track like Greyville’.

In a terrific result for Varsfontein Stud, their Dynasty gelding Bunker Hunt ran an encouraging third behind sons of their top-class sires, Master Of My Fate and Gimmethegreenlight.

His sire’s very first winner, stakes winner and graded stakes winner, Twist Of Fate has now registered three group race victories, and a meritorious runner-up claim in the Gr1 Cape Guineas.

Master Of My Fate enjoyed a great weekend as his unbeaten daughter Basadi Faith followed up 24 hours later in the Gr2 SA Fillies Nursery at Turffontein.

Joey Ramsden was over the moon with the bargain buy and commended the Varsfontein sire as well as his international owners, the River Palace Racing Syndicate.

“He is a lovely horse to work with and, while I wasn’t too happy with the one draw, I would have preferred midfield, things worked out well.  He’s as honest as the day is long and probably better over further.”

Owned by the River Palace Syndicate, Twist Of Fate is out of the twice winning Counter Action mare, Crescent Lily, a winner of the Listed Breeders Guineas at Fairview.

A R20 000 buy off the CTS March Yearling Sale, Twist Of Fate has won 6 races with 6 places from 13 starts for stakes of R2 212 850.
