The undefeated Australian bred Majmu gave Anton Marcus the easiest Gr2 victory that he will enjoy all season when she disposed of her five opponents to win the R400 000 SA Fillies Nursery at Turffontein.

Sent off at prohibitive odds and labelled the best of the Mike De Kock runners on Champions Day, there was just no sweating for those with the serious bucks to have actually backed her.

In a disappointingly small field of six Corne’s Girl was quickly out and was tracked on the outside by Majmu, who gradually asserted herself, showing the benefit of her experience after being very green at her first two starts.

Majmu came forward at the 400m and all it took was a shake of the reins by Anton Marcus as she drew off to win easily.

She won by 8,75 lengths in a time of 67,47 secs

All very academic really!

Recent maiden winner Victoria Young finished second, wile Green Crest disappointed with an 11,75 length third.

Marcus Anton reckons he was spoilt

Anton Marcus, who was deputising for Anthony Delpech who is in Hong Kong,  said that only one word comes to mind:’spoilt!’.

Mike De Kock said that there were some nice fillies racing in KZN and that he would be watching  them with interest.

Sheikh Hamdan’s representative Angus Gold said that he had always felt that she was an Oaks filly when seen at the sales and that she was winning on class, as she would go further in time to come.

Majmu is now unbeaten in three starts for total stakes of R468 750

Majmu was  bred in Australia by Arrowfield Stud and sold by them at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $300,000 to Shadwell Stud.

She is the second foal of South American Group 1 winner Spontaneous.

Majmu races in the blue and white strip of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum.
