This Is A Racehorse

KZN Champion trainer vocal in praise of his new star galloper

Same Jurisdiction has got the racing world talking

Same Jurisdiction has got the racing world talking

Ashburton trainer Duncan Howells was the toast of Greyville on Friday evening when he brought his champion juvenile Same Jurisdiction back from an extended break to score a facile victory in the Gr3 Flamboyant Stakes in her first start as a 3yo.

The athletic daughter of Mambo In Seattle looked a picture in the preliminaries and backed into 9 to 10 favourite, she disposed of her eight opponents in a matter of strides to set herself up as an exciting prospect for the Gauteng feature season that lies ahead.

Suspended after bleeding, following her gutsy victory over Carry On Alice in the Gr1 Thekwini on Super Saturday, Same Jurisdiction simply carried too many guns here as she was geared down strides before the line by the experienced Stuart Randolph.

“This is what dreams are made of. I have watched her work and I felt I haven’t trained a horse like this since Via Africa. She was sluggish out of the gates tonight, but she is a racehorse!” said a thrilled Howells, who is in his first season as provincial champion trainer and enjoyed a hat-trick of winners on the evening

Same Jurisdiction came out with some uncertainty from her 3 draw as Pearl Emblem led the Laird duo of Captain’s Daughter and Admiral’s Eye.

Same Jurisdiction eventually settled in sixth with about five lengths to make up.

Into the home straight, Randoplh hooked Same Jurisdiction out for a run as they cornered and given the office, she came through them and drew off with ease to beat her field by four lengths in a time of 96,97 secs. Impressive!

Goldie Coast ran on for second, but was in another race, while the ever-present Admiral’s Eye plodded into third.

Jockey Kevin Shea, who had ridden her Same Jurisdiction at all of her four first runs, but who is out injured, was on course to enjoy the victory.

Same Jurisdiction raced for the first time in the Drakenstein blue after the leading breeders had purchased a share in her – no doubt with a view to her exciting future paddock potential.

Howells said afterwards that he was happy and relieved to have won at the first time of asking for Drakenstein.

Same Jurisdiction has now won 4 races with 1 place from 5 starts and has earned stakes of R1 148 425.

Klawervlei Stud bred the winner, who cost R270 000 on the KZN Yearling Sale.

She is a daughter of Mambo In Seattle out of the lightly raced one-time winning Captain Al mare, Diana De Carlo.

Her dam only won up to 1200m, but Same Jurisidiction settles well and has a terrific turn of foot.

She could go 2000m and her real test will come when she travels to Turffontein.
