Liege Wins Well

Tarry smiling again - and son of Dynasty is improving

Champions Season_520

The Sean Tarry trained Liege has always been touted as above average. He finally put a feature winning performance together with an authoritative performance  in Sunday’s R250 000 Gr3 Jubilee Handicap at Turffontein.

Sean Tarry would have breathed a sigh of relief after the recent virus concerns and it was pleasing to see his July entry Trophy Wife winning a  Pinnacle Stakes earlier in the afternoon.

S’manga Khumalo – cool ride under pressure

Things panned out beautifully for Liege as S’manga Khumalo had the son of Dynasty relaxed as stablemate Stonehenge kept things honest leading the way out front.

S’manga Khumalo brought Liege forward at the 400m marker and the son of Dynasty stayed on strongly to thwart the late tackle by the year older Rainy Day Blues, who continues to improve nicely.

The winner’s margin was a comfortable 1,10 lengths and he registered a time of 109,38 secs.

Romany Prince stayed on nicely for third a further 1,10 lengths back, with July hopeful Judicial fluffing his lines with a weak fourth.

Topweight and race favourite Deo Juvente, who was having his first run in 22 weeks, went wrong in running and was pulled out of the race by Piere Strdyom.

Judicial failed to turn the power on late and plodded into fourth – probably blowing any hope he may have had of getting a run in the July.

Liege has largely been found wanting when taking on his own age group at feature level but is growing in confidence.

He has now won 4 races with 2 places from 14 starts and took his stakes tally to R430 000.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Liege is by Dynasty out of that high class and versatile broodmare Lyrical Linda (Jallad), who won eight races from 1400m to 2000m.

He was purchased for R650 000 by Rainbow Beach Trading off the 2014 CTS Cape Ready To Run Sale.
