The Cape hopes were put squarely in their place in the R150 000 Gr3 Umzimkhulu Stakes run over 1400m at Scottsville on Saturday when the power pair of Dennis Drier and jockey Sean Cormack produced the promising Right Approach filly Eventual Angel for an impressive win.

The lightly raced Eventual Angel was a Cape Premier Yearling Sale bargain buy and registered a career first stakes win under Sean Cormack at only her fourth start.

Justin Snaith teamed up to partner Anton Marcus with the smart Captain Al filly Highly Decorated, who returned after an 18 week rest to start a well backed favourite. Hyped up as the Snaith’s best runner, the Cape Champions drew an uncharacteristic blank in all four of the national features.

Highly Decorated could do no better than run a 3 length fourth, after the athletic Eventual Angel scooted clear at the 300m marker to beat the flying Red Flame by 2 lengths in a time of 83,97 secs.

African Dream got the better of Highly Decorated, to run an encouraging third.

The Moutonshoek Stud bred Eventual  Angel is by Right Approach out of the unraced Jet Master mare, Summer Angel.

She came in here off an 11 week rest since winning her only start of the Cape summer season.

She has won 3 of her 4 starts, with a second place at the other.

She took her earnings to R201 055 and looks terrific value for her Cape Premier Yearling Sale Book 2 price tag of R60 000.
