Guineas’ Silver Lining

Bass lays down cudgel with super filly

A superb field of 17 accepted for the R1 million Grand Parade Gr1 Cape Guineas to be run at Kenilworth on Saturday 19 December. The major talking point will be the inclusion of Silver Mountain, who bids to become to the first filly to win the premier classic since Little Ballerina in 1993.

The race was first run in 1955 when won by Marion Island and in 1991 Star Effort became the first filly to clinch the Fillies – Colts’ Guineas double.

That is the historical mark that the Silver Mountain will be bidding for when she takes on 16 top-class males at Kenilworth in what could be a highlight of the season.

The gods have dealt the Mike Bass team and regular jockey Aldo Domeyer her a decent draw at 2.

The field includes illustrious Gauteng raiders Rabada and Noah From Goa, and with Anthony Delpech riding the latter, Brandon Lerena gets the ride on Gavin Van Zyl’s CTS Ready To Run Stakes winner, Budapest.

What a race!
