Lonsdale – Van Niekerk Gets Ten Days

Has right of appeal against finding and penalty

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on 2 July 2018, Jockey Grant van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.

This arose in that as the rider of STRATHDON, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to MADE TO CONQUER over the final 300m of Race 5 at Greyville Racecourse on 2 June 2018.

Jockey van Niekerk pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board found Jockey van Niekerk guilty and imposed a suspension from riding in races for a period of ten days.

Jockey van Niekerk has the right of appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
