Green Light As Kannemeyer Colt Heads To Nursery

Cosmic Highway became the latest Cape Premier Yearling Sale graduate to impress, when the Dean Kannemeyer trained colt won impressively on debut at Kenilworth on Saturday.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Cosmic Highway, a two- year-old colt by Gimmethegreenlight, defied greeness and a slow start with a breathaking win to score in Kenilworth’s first race in fine style.

Under Grant Behr, Cosmic Highway produced a fine turn of foot which saw him get up close home to break his maiden by a head over 1000m.

The winning jockey  was full of praise for his mount, commenting in the post-race interview, “He is a lovely, well balanced little horse, who shows a lot at work, and I think he is a smart horse.”

A tilt at the Cape Nursery is now on the cards for Cosmic Highway, who was knocked down to Form Bloodstock for R400 000 at last year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Saturday’s debut winner has an Querari half-brother (Lot 40) on offer at this year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale. The pair were produced by the Silvano mare Cosmic Dream, whose Gr2 winning daughter Cosmic Light (by Querari), has an Erupt colt (Lot 41) on offer at the 2021 Premier Sale.

Cosmic Highway’s sensational sire Gimmethegreenlight has an excellent draft on offer at this year’s Premier Sale, with Gimmethegreenlight’s consignment including a filly (Lot 56) from the same family as Nureyev and Sadler’s Wells, a filly (Lot 95) out of dual Gr2 Camellia Stakes winner Joan Ranger, and a three-parts brother (Lot 163) to Fillies Guineas winner Gimme Six.

Entries for the R150 000 Gr3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery closer at 11:00 on Monday, 15 February.

Declarations at 11h00 on Monday 22 February..

Kannemeyer made it a 100% day when April Glaspie’s Irish Morning – another son of Gimmethegreenlight – won the last in a common canter.
