De Kock made the following comments to podcast host Luck on the show:

“He’s definitely got ability and is a very good horse. If he can deal with the undulations…and adapt to the situation there I think he’ll do very, very well. It’ll be very interesting to see how the South African form will stack up with your horses.

“Its only every now and then you get the real South African champion that will stand up to your quality. I think he will be competitive, it’s really hard to tell, but I think the best of this horse is still to come.”

Hawwaam bid the South African racing public farewell in grand style at Turffontein in June last year when cruising home in facile fashion to beat stablemate Soqrat and capture the R425 000 World Sports Betting Gr1 Premier’s Champions Challenge for the second consecutive year.

De Kock is on record saying that Hawwaam could win an Arlington Million and even a a Gr1 in Australia.

A R1 million National Yearling Sale graduate, the half-brother to sATURDAY’S Cape Town Met fancies Rainbow Bridge and Golden Ducat was bred by Mauritzfontein & Wilgerbosdrift, and is a son of multiple champion Silvano (Lomitas) out of the seven-time winning SA Broodmare Of The Year, Halfway To Heaven (Jet Master).

Hawwaam won 10 of his 13 starts here with 1 place for stakes of R6 769 775.
