Another Mountain To Climb

A magnificent family

While Highlands Farm is home to many top broodmares and Gr1 performers, there can be no doubt that the wonderful Our Table Mountain ranks among their finest matrons.

Our Table Mountain

Our Table Mountain wins with Glen Hatt up

The daughter of Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus was a classy race mare whose six wins included the Listed Olympic Duel Stakes and Our Table Mountain won from 1200-1600m.

Our Table Mountain, whose half-brother is former Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner and successful US sire Artie Schiller, has proven even more successful at stud.

Her first four foals have all won and they include the G1 performers Careful Hiker (by Spectrum) and Helderberg Blue (by Jet Master). The latter has won four times and ran a creditable third in last year’s G1 J&B Met when beaten just under three lengths by subsequent Horse Of The Year Futura. Helderberg Blue looks on track for another tilt at the Met, having finished a smart third to stable mate Paterfamilias last time out in the G2 Premier Trophy.

Our Table Mountain’s 3yo is none other than star filly Silver Mountain, a winner of four of just six outings to date.

The exciting Silver Mountain - in line for a big payday

The exciting Silver Mountain

Silver Mountain’s victories included a five length romp in the G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas and a 1.5 length win (from a wide draw) in the G2 Choice Carries Fillies Championship, and she currently ranks as head and shoulders as the best 3yo filly seen out this season.

A daughter of Silvano, Silver Mountain currently ranks 1st on the log for the inaugural CTS $1 000 000 race to be run this January.

Pleasingly, Our Table Mountain (who has a Dynasty colt on offer at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale in January) has tested in foal to Drakenstein Stud’s world class young sire Duke Of Marmalade.

The latter had a fantastic year in 2015 with his runners including four individual classic winners, notable champion and G1 Ladbrokes St Leger heroine Simple Verse, G1 IDEE 146th Deutsches Derby winner Nutan and G1 Prix de Diane Longines (French Oaks) winner Star Of Seville.

The latter will visit outstanding sire Deep Impact in her first year at stud in 2016.
