Trainer Michel Azzie has confirmed that Triple Crown champion Abashiri returned to the yard on Monday, 4 July 2016.

Abashiri, who pulled up lame after the running of Saturday’s 2016 Vodacom Durban July, was vanned off immediately after the race for a full veterinary examination.

A relieved Michael Azzie confirmed to the Sporting Post that Abashiri arrived back at the yard mid-way through Monday morning.

“He was pretty sore after the race and naturally we were very concerned and wanted to take every precaution.  There is still some swelling to the fetlock joint, so he is still bandaged up, but he is walking much more comfortably.  Most importantly, the scans and x-rays have all come back clear, so there do not appear to be any fractures or soft tissue damage.”

“He’ll have a good rest now, we’ll take good care of him and let him heal slowly.”
