Mauritzfontein’s resident sire Ideal World has enjoyed a very decent season and the son of Kingmambo had buyers paying plenty of attention at the KZN Yearling Sale which came to a close after two days of trading on Friday.

Ashburton trainer Louis Goosen went to R500 000 for the overall sales topper , Macallan (#252), a Birch Bros bred colt by Ideal World out of a National Assembly mare.
The handsome specimen is a full brother to Gr3 Strelitzia Stakes winner Inverroche – one of the fancies to win the KZN Yearling Sale Million at Greyville on Saturday.
Ideal World has proven a versatile stakes producing sire this term, with his progeny including the undefeated Gr3 Cape Classic winner, Rainbow Bridge.The value sire sold 5 lots for an aggregate of R920 000, at an average of R184 000.
The top-selling filly overall was Aalsmeer (#157), a daughter of Flower Alley out of the Gr3 Magnolia Handicap winner Fair Rosalind. (Count Dubois).

A half-sister to two winners, she was consigned by Bush Hill Stud as agent and sold to Geoff Van Lear for R375 000.
A total of 223 lots were sold with the aggregate of R17, 9 million just over 6% up on last year. The average prices was R80 269, with the median of R50 000 up 11,1% year on year
The leading vendor on aggregate was Rathmor Stud who sold 12 lots for R1 250 000 for an average of R104 167.
The highest average amongst the breeders who sold more than 5 yearlings was achieved by Eastern Cape-based Ascot Stud, whose 6 lots sold for R1 025 000 at an average of R170 833.
Trainer Louis Goosen topped the buyer’s charts with his 4 yearlings costing R990 000, at an average of R247 500.
The Hollywood Syndicate bought their quartet of yearlings for R400 000 at an average of R100 000.
With 19 progeny on the sale, Rathmor’s Unbridled’s Song son Noble Tune topped the aggregate on the sires table, grossing R1 410 000 at an average of R100 714.
Highlands stallion Jackson saw his 8 yearlings sell for a gross R1 210 000, with past July winner Bold Silvano’s trio selling for an aggregate R710 000, with an average of R236 667.
