Peter Heagney – trend to continue
The 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale kept up its record setting pace into Day Two with spirited bidding leading to an increased average price of $98,873 for the 287 lots sold on the first two days of the Melbourne sale.
The total number of lots sold for $150,000 or more by the end of Day Two has risen from 26 in 2013 to 38 last year and now 56 in 2015, a real highlight of the sale’s growth.
Supporting this progression is the strength and increasing popularity of the Blue Riband session which realised a record average of $135,488 for 41 lots sold.
“The strength of this year’s sale is comparing very favourably to previous years and we are confident that this trend will continue through to the conclusion of the sale in two days’ time,” said Inglis Victorian Director Peter Heagney.
“The popularity of the Blue Riband session in particular shows there is a real niche for the classic types of horses,” Heagney added.
Foxwedge – leading first season sire
A new Australian sales record price for the progeny of first season sire Foxwedge was set before 11:00am when Lot 185, a colt from Group 1 performer Glowlamp (by Encosta de Lago) was purchased by for $420,000. Offered from the draft of Newgate Farm the colt was bought by New South Wales trainer Paul Perry.
At the conclusion of Day Two Foxwedge is the leading first season sire at Inglis Premier averaging $187,500 for eight Lots sold, ahead of Sepoy.
Sepoy has had five lots sell at an average of $158,000, headed by Rosemont Stud’s filly (Lot 285) from stakes placed Choisir mare Jesse’s Girl which sold to local trainer Clinton McDonald for $350,000.
The Blue Riband Session for yearlings bred and conformed to excel over middle and staying distances was again buoyant with nine lots selling for $200,000 or more, led by a $310,000 Redoute’s Choice colt and $280,000 Fastnet Rock filly.
The Redoute’s Choice x Possessed colt (Lot 258) will head in to the stable of Champion South African trainer Mike de Kock after being secured by Form Bloodstock from the Arrowfield Stud draft.
Jehan Malherbe – been busy
Jehan Malherbe from Form Bloodstock has been busy throughout the first two days of the sale, spending $655,000 on four Lots.
Snitzel leads the sire’s table by aggregate having sold 15 of his progeny for $1,860,000. Fastnet Rock is hot on his heels making $1,745,000 over the first two days of the sale.
Five lots will follow in the footsteps of Sacred Kingdom and head into the Hong Kong stable of Ricky Yiu after being purchased at Inglis Premier. Yiu has signed for five colts at an average of $208,000 so far.
After Two Days of selling, the leading Vendor is Newgate Farm having sold 10 Lots for an average of $174,500.
Going into Day Three Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster comments “It has been a great few days here out at Oaklands and I’m confident good buying will continue into Days Three and Four, which is when we sold Inglis Premier superheroes Black Caviar, Weekend Hustler, Trust In A Gust and recent Oakleigh Plate winner Shamal Wind.”
Day Three of the auction again starts at 10:30am tomorrow with Lots 393 to 623 to be offered.
