Hawkins: ‘Gold Circle’s Own Decision’

Operator made a call regarding International Jockeys

Michael Varney

Michael Varney took some pressure from Goodman

The biggest racing fans in the country are in KwaZulu-Natal and Gold Circle are a stakeholder in Racing It’s A Rush, and thus contributing financially, so why did we not get a leg of the 2014 International Jockeys Challenge?

James Goodman posed this seemingly very relevant and simple question to Phumelela Marketing Executive Michael Varney on the Winning Ways show on Tellytrack on Monday evening.

This year’s challenge will be staged in two legs, the first of which will be hosted at Turffontein on Saturday, 15 November and the second on Sunday, 16 November at Kenilworth.

But did Mr Varney answer the question or was it  the usual smoke and mirrors political sidestep?

Gold Circle’s Graeme Hawkins responded on 12 November:

To be fair to the Racing Association, and to set the record straight, please be advised that Gold Circle’s non-participation in the 2014 Jockeys’ International was our own decision and in no way were we side-lined in any way.
