Call Them What You Like – They Can Run!

Mr Crumford storms home at Kenilworth

An unknown Greyville Racecourse security officer  was probably oblivious to his moment in the sun at Kenilworth on Saturday, when Brett Crawford trained a personal first Jackson winner.

Brett Crawford – you can call him Crumford

Crawford, who guided Jackson through his sensational track career, was celebrating his personal first winning progeny of the son of Dynasty when Mr Crumford stormed home at his second outing to win a cracker for Craig and Ross Kieswetter and Ridgemont Racing.

The handsome 2yo colt was partnered to victory by Greg Cheyne and beat hot favourite Frank Lloyd Wright with ease.

Brett Crawford was tagged ‘Mr Crumford’ by the Greyville security officer and the Kieswetter brothers just had to name a horse after the misnomer.

Jackson, who was the top lot sold from the 2010 Emperors Palace National Two Year Old Sale, was an exceptional racehorse. This was his second winner.

Trained by Brett Crawford, Jackson won six times, and earned over R2.3 million, during a career which saw the handsome colt thrash champion Variety Club in the Gr1 Investec Cape Derby. Jackson also won the Gr1 Daily News 2000 and G1 Champions Cup, and won or placed in a total of nine graded races.

A son of Horse Of The Year, and four time Equus Outstanding Stallion, Dynasty, present day Highlands-Ridgemont stallion Jackson was one of three graded stakes winners produced by the Cozzene mare Moonlit Prairie

Mr Crumford, who was squeezed and ran unplaced on his Durbanville debut, was purchased by Ridgemont Stud for R90 000 off the 2017 CTS March Yearling Sale. He was bred by Morne de Villiers and is the third foal of Captain Al mare, Sovereign Flo.

Jackson, who got off the mark quickly with a winner from his early first 2yo’s, has 11 lots on the BSA National Yearling Sale.

Amongst a choice selection is his son Leicester Square (Lot 146), who is out of a 3 time winning half-sister to champion and outstanding broodmare First Arrival, while Jackson colt Hidden Legacy (Lot 197) is out of a stakes placed half-sister to British Gr1 winner Stradivarius, a leading contender for major races once again in 2018.
