Two top Gr1 features on Met Day menu

Capetown Noir

Derby Date! Capetown Noir looks a good bet in the Gr1 Investec Cape Derby

The R600 000 Gr1 Investec Cape Derby and the R500 000 Gr1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes complete a dazzling triple feature bill on Met day 2013. The presence of the Dean Kannemeyer star Capetown Noir has failed to scare away eleven top 3yo’s who will be taking him on.

The Cape Premier Yearling Sales Guineas winner Capetown Noir  was touted as a likely Met runner but his conservative trainer has opted for the tried and tested classic route with a top horse who has his whole career ahead of him.

Partnered by regular pilot Karl Neisius, the Lammerskraal Stud-bred son of Western Winter jumps from a 1 draw and looks the veritable aimer. But this is Gr1 level, and stranger things have happened!

A superb field of sixteen of the best lady racers around will contest the Majorca, and an interesting inclusion is Saturday’s Sceptre Stakes runnerup, All Is Secret.

Anton Marcus jumps ship, to ride the Sceptre winner, Blueridge Mountain. Such are the joys of being retained by the leading owner in the country!

Other forward candidates include De Kock’s Gr1 Woolavington winner Viva Maria, and the Jet Master Stakes victress, Thunder Dance.
