Katak Set For Singapore In 2021

Son of Potala Palace is having a break

Marsh Shirtliff, part-owner of star-on-the-rise Katak, has confirmed that an overseas campaign is in the offing for the son of Potala Palace, who completed the Western Cape’s Winter Series last week and is unbeaten from five starts.

Shirtliff told Turf Talk: “Bryn Ressell and I have bought trainer Piet Steyn’s share of Katak pending his passing of overseas veterinary regulations and stipulations. Piet assures us Katak is pyro-free, which is a good start.

“The plan is to keep Katak here, with Piet, for the new season’s Green Point Stakes, the Queen’s Plate and the 2021 Sun Met, after which he will be exported for overseas racing.

“Since we can’t race as South African owners in Hong Kong we’re considering Singapore as an option. My son Guy is based there, we always race 6- 12 horses in Singapore in a season.”

Steyn said: “Katak is wrapped in cotton wool, we’re giving him a month off to rest, I want him to pick up some weight. He pulled up very well after his 2400m race last week. He’s done us all proud with his achievements this year.”
