Hong Kong Bid Fails For Aussie Stayer

Owners decide to go for a Gr1 rather

A Hong Kong offer of the equivalent of R34 million has been turned down by the connections of the promising Australian stayer Kinane, who is now set for the South Australian Derby.

Racenet reported during the week that offers of more than $2 million had come in for Chris Waller’s son of Reliable Man and bids had raised to $2.8 million by Friday for the impressive Gr3 Frank Packer Plate  winner.

Trainer Chris Waller – can now aim at the Derby

The connections met on Friday to discuss the offers, stemming from Hong Kong, but reports have confirmed they turned down the big money to continue chasing a GrI on Australian soil.

The news comes just hours after Anthony Cummings confirmed classy three-year-old Indy Car, which was one of the leading contenders for Saturday’s Gr3 Hawkesbury Guineas, was sold to Hong Kong on Friday.

A son of Reliable Man, Kinane has earned just over A$100 000, wining 2 from 4. He has never finished worse than second in four Australian starts . He attracted plenty of attention with a superb win in the Franke Packer Plate – a race that featured Australian Derby winner Quick Thinker.

He is raced by a partnership of J B O’Rourke, R D Pack, G D Fagan, Mrs T Fagan, C Williams, New Kid In Town (Mgr: G Baker), M T Redmond, M F Neale, M C Kent, N Donnelley, Mrs G J Donnelley, R Baynes, C’est la Vie (Mgr: W Palmer) & T J Eastwood.

Kinane will now tackle Morphettville’s Gr1 South Australian Derby run over 2500m on 9 May.
